Clint Davies was thrown in at the deep end on his Bradford City debut, coming off the bench at Gillingham after fellow goalkeeper Alan Combe had been sent off late in the first half.

The Perth-born youngster didn’t concede a goal in his time on the pitch, but didn’t play again until almost two months later when he started as City went down 2-0 at Sheffield United. They were to be his only appearances for the club.

The former Birmingham City custodian was signed by Nicky Law as third-choice behind Combe and New Zealand international Mark Paston, but within weeks of being signed was farmed out on a season-long loan to Halifax.

But injuries meant he was recalled by Law, only to then be told he could leave the club by new manager Bryan Robson.
