A Liverpool-born striker who played one season for Bradford City in 2003/04, scoring six goals, Michael Branch came onto our radar in 2008 when it was reported he was having trials with A-League club Queensland Roar (now Brisbane Roar)

Nothing came of that, but in February 2009 Branch, now living in Australia, signed for Caboolture as a player/coach.

Branch, who started his career with Everton, had spells on loan at Manchester City, Birmingham City and Wolves before signing a permanent deal with the latter. Further loan spells at Reading and Hull followed before he joined the Bantams on a free transfer.

While Branch impressed with his never-say-die attitude at Valley Parade, it was a season to forget all round despite the former England U21 man netting on his debut to secure a thrilling 2-2 draw with Norwich.

That was about as good as it got for the Bantams in what was a miserable centenary season though, the club finishing second from bottom in the Championship to be relegated.

Branch was one of three players released at the end of the season – along with Robert Wolleaston and Mark Paston – and he joined Chester City before finishing his career in the UK with Halifax.
