Update 16.8.10

Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Mark Paston was in action for the first time since his World Cup heroics for New Zealand, playing a full game as his side was held to a 3-3 draw with Gold Coast United at home in round 2 on Friday 13 August 2010.

Jonathan Gould was an unused substitute for the New Zealand-based outfit.

Like Gould, Paul Henderson could only watch on as his Newcastle Jets side drew 1-1 with Melbourne Heart at EnergyAustralia Stadium on the same night.

Gareth Edds played a full game as his North Queensland Fury side shocked Sydney FC, winning 2-1 at Dairy Farmers Stadium in Townsville on Saturday 14 August 2010.

And Adelaide United midfielder Paul Reid finished off the action by playing a full game as his side drew 1-1 at Central Coast Mariners on Sunday 15 August 2010.

Update 9.8.10

Adelaide United midfielder Paul Reid was the first of five former Bradford City players to be in action as season six of the A-League kicked off.

Reid was replaced in the 85th minute as his side were held to a 0-0 home defeat against Newcastle Jets on Friday 6 August 2010. The midfielder also earned himself a yellow card.

Paul Henderson, a new signing for the Newcastle Jets, was an unused substitute for his side.

Another new signing, Gareth Edds, played a full game and skippered his side as North Queensland Fury fought out a 3-3 away to Perth Glory on the same night.

With 11 teams in this season’s competition it means one side will have a bye each week, and that was Wellington Phoenix in round 1, meaning no action for Mark Paston or Jonathan Gould – the latter of whom sat on the bench of few times last season as goalkeeping cover.
